Several Hindu men, women and children celebrated the Janamastami (birth) of Krishna with religious fervor at Ravi Road’s Krishna Mandir on Wednesday.
“When Krishna was born, his uncle Raja Kansa wanted him killed. Krishna’s father Wasu Dev was jailed by the uncle when the child was born and in an act of utter desperation, Krishna’s mother put her newborn into a basket and set him afloat the Jamuna River,” Pundit Kashi Ram explained.
The mandir’s incharge Munawwar Chan explained that the Hindus all over the world celebrate Krishna’s birth and pray.
Prayers for the solidarity and success of the country were also offered after the ceremony. The Pundit also thanked the government for sending sweets and for providing adequate security for the occasion.
