The Supreme Court on Tuesday said there was no electricity in the country and the government should announce the energy policy soon.

A three-member SC bench, led by Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, took the CNG licence case for hearing, during which Justice Khilji Arif Hussain said, “Problems are created due to load shedding. Gas prices are on the rise but the woes of the consumers are not coming to end.”

The court was told by the government that the energy policy had been evolved and it would be presented before it soon.

Representing the textile industry, Salman Akram Raja said although load shedding had diminished for domestic consumers, electricity was not being provided to the industrial sector for more than 10 hours.

The court directed the federal government to treat all the sectors equally as far as the load shedding was concerned.
