Interior Ministry officials said that a summary report, recommending two international conventions for the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui has been prepared, a private TV channel reported on Tuesday.

The summary report has been forwarded to the Federal Cabinet which is scheduled to discuss the recommendations put forth in its session tomorrow.

The two conventions which have been suggested include the European Convention and the Inter-American Convention.

Upon the approval of the Cabinet, a 5 month long process will be initiated to bring the suggestions into effect.

The report has been prepared in light of US refusal to agree to a bilateral treaty guaranteeing Dr Aafia’s release.

Aafia was sentenced to 86 years on September 23, 2010 after she was found guilty on seven counts, including attempted murder. She is currently being held at an American maximum security prison in Fort Worth, Texas.
