Maintaining the previous trend, once again girls outshone boys in the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) annual exams by clinching more top positions in all the groups.
According to the result announced by the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) in a ceremony held here Tuesday, a total of 50,771 students appeared in the exams and 36,705 students could pass the exams with the pass percentage of 72.30.
Girls bagged first three positions in Humanities group including Sara Noor of Fauji Foundation College for Girls with 914 marks stood first, Mamoona Aslam of Islamabad Model College for Girls with 895 marks second and Mubashirah Tariq Qasmi of Pakistan International School, Jeddah obtained third position with 894 marks.
In science general group, again three girls bagged top positions, including Faiza Ahmed Khan of Army Public School and College, Jhelum with 1011 marks stood first, Novera Tahir of Army Burn Hall College for Girls, Abbottabad with 1010 marks second and Sidrah Kanwal of Islamabad Model College for Girls, G-10/4 bagged third position with 973 marks.
In pre-medical group, Naima Gul and Zainab Khalil of Hamza Army Public School and College, Rawalpindi clinched first and second position with 1036 and 1029 marks respectively.
The third position was shared by Naima Maqsood of Army Public School and College for Girls, Rawalpindi and Muhammad Sheharyar Warraich of Army Public School and college for Boys, Rawalpindi with 1023 marks.
In pre-engineering group, Irsa Rasheed of Hamza Army Public School and College, Rawalpindi got first position with 1020 marks, Ayesha Zaka of Punjab College, Islamabad second with 1017 marks and Syed Ammar Abbas of FG Sir Syed College obtained third position with 1016 marks.
In commerce group, Basit Ali of Punjab College of Information Technology, Islamabad got first position with 908 marks, Arslan Augustie Joseph of Punjab College got second position with 887 marks and Aziz Fatima of Garrison Post Graduate College for Women, Lahore obtained third position with 884 marks.
A total of 7438 regular candidates appeared in the humanities group and 5064 passed against 1518 private candidates out of 4429.
In pre-medical group, a total of 7770 regular candidates appeared in the exams and 6957 passed against 1577 private candidates out of 1903 appeared.
In pre-engineering, a total of 10663 regular candidates appeared in the exams and 8978 passed against 1422 private candidates of 2055 appeared.
A total of 6271 regular candidates passed the exams in science general group out of 8308 appeared while only 961 private students passed the exams out of 1723 students.
In commerce group, a total of 3107 regular students passed the exams of 4508 while 690 ex-private students remained successful out of 1686 appeared.
In med tech group, 243 regular students appeared in the exams and 150 passed the exams while only 10 private students could manage to pass the exam out of 45 appeared.
The result cards of regular candidates are being dispatched to the heads of their respective institutions and those of private candidates within the country on the addresses provided by them in their admission forms.
The result cards of overseas candidates are being dispatched to the heads of the institutions from where they appeared in the exams.
However, the result cards of candidates both regular and private belonging to Gilgit Baltistan are being sent to the FBISE’ sub-office Gilgit.
This year, six unfair means cases were reported and all have been decided after adopting judicious process.
The application for rechecking of papers can be submitted within 30 days of declaration of the result.
The supplementary exams of HSSC 2013 will commence from November 19 and the admission forms along with the fee can be submitted till September 25 with normal fee. However, the admission forms with double fee can be submitted till October 4.

The candidates can get result through SMS unified code 5050 by sending SMS in the format FB [roll number].
Addressing on the occasion, the State Minister for Education
Balighur Rehman said the present government would initiate every effort for bringing positive reforms in education system of the country.
He said the government would expand the role and function of FBISE by giving it powers to control the private educational institutions too.
He also expressed his commitment to bring healthy changes in the examination system by introducing new paper patterns to develop critical thinking of the students.
The minister said that the issue of plagiarism would discourage to bring transparency in the educational system.
