Criticising the Balochistan government, the leader of the Balochistan National Party (Awami) and former minister for postal services, Mir Israrullah Zehri on Tuesday said the province was being pushed to the brink of a civil war due to the wrong policies of the provincial government.

During an exclusive sitting with Pakistan Today at the Parliament House, the member of the opposition in the Balochistan Assembly, Zehri said, “A fake mandate always proves fake and cannot be justified through any manner.”

Accusing the provincial government for not delivering anything on ground, Zehri said the Abdul Malik Baloch-led provincial government had failed in resolving the issues of the province as all major issues were still there.

“The missing persons issue is of major concern for the people of Balochistan and nothing has been done by the incumbent Balochistan government,” he said.

Declaring the mandate of the Balochistan government fake, Zehri said half of the tasks for which the present setup was formed had been completed and the rest would be completed in the coming three months, after which there will be no need of the present provincial government, adding that “then they may be sent home”.

To a question, he said earlier the Baloch people had complaints against the federal institutions, but now they also had complaints against the provincial institutions.

To another question, Zehri said the number of killings in the province had increased threefold, adding that the Baloch were being killed regularly and no road was secure for the general public any more.

He said local district administrations had awarded contracts of security to private militias who were free to act anywhere who had contributed to worsening the law and order in the province.

The former minister directly held the Levies responsible for the deteriorating law and order, saying as “they were behind the growing incidents of kidnapping for ransom and murder for its vested interests.”

Hitting hard on the provincial government, Zehri said the people in the province were already suffering and now their miseries had been multiplied tenfold by the Balochistan government.

On Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s recent claim of turning the province into a replica of Hong Kong, Zehri said prior to transforming Balochistan into Hong Kong, Nawaz should bring peace in the province.

He said establishing peace in Balochistan was also the prime responsibility of the federal as well as the provincial governments.

Lodging a complaint against the Balochistan government, Zehri said the chief minister-led provincial government was pushing its opponents to the wall and this policy should be revised as it could prove negative for the country as well as the province.

To another question, he said the current policies of the provincial government were not only contributing to raising personal enmities of the people but were also driving the province towards a civil war that was alarming.
