Senate adopts resolution to eradicate spurious drugs

The Senate has unanimously passed a resolution that effective steps be taken to eradicate manufacturing and sale of spurious and substandard drugs in the country.
The resolution was moved by Talha Mahmood.
The Senate on Monday disposed of six bills and referred these to the standing committees concerned. The bill presented by Mohsin Khan Leghari asked to amend the constitution of Pakistan “The Constitution (Amendment) Bill‚ 2013”.
Second bill, presented by Karim Ahmad Khawaja, provides for the rehabilitation and welfare of the unattended orphan children, The Unattended Orphans (Rehabilitation and Welfare) Bill 2013.
The third bill, laid by Abdul Haseeb Khan, seeks amending the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan Act‚ 2012 (The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Amendment) Bill‚ 2013″.
Fourth bill was jointly presented by Mian Raza Rabbani and Saeed Ghani which will amend the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan “The Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2013”.
Fifth bill moved by Mohsin Khan Leghari seeks further amendment of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan (The Constitution (Amendment) Bill‚ 2013″ (Amendment of Article 1).
The sixth bill presented by Abdul Haseeb Khan seeks establishment of the Pakistan Pharmacy Council to regulate the practice of Pharmacy “The Pakistan Pharmacy Council Bill‚ 2013”.
The House prayed for the departed souls of poet Ahmad Faraz and Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Bugti.
The Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production chairman laid before the House report of the committee. Mushahid Hussain Syed said it is the only committee that is highly vibrant with own website.
He said, “We have given a cyber security plan to supplement the government efforts.”
He said the committee has also set up its action for the next six months.
The House passed another resolution unanimously regarding environmental concerns.
It asked the government to take effective steps to implement the international obligations of the federal government regarding global warming and to control environmental pollution in the country. The federal government may facilitate provincial governments to observe the international standards specified by the United Nations relating to tree plantation‚ disposal of waste‚ protection of sea‚ rivers‚ canals‚ creeks and lakes from waste.
The resolution was moved by Karim Ahmad Khawaja.
Senator Farhatullah Babar moved a motion to discuss the situation arising out of nonpayment of compensation to decree holders of land acquired for AFV Rangers in Nowshera for the last several decades.
The chair sought a report of the motion within a week.
The House will now meet on Tuesday (today) at 10.
