Chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, (JUI-S), Samiul Haq, has urged the United States to hold dialogue with the Taliban without any mediator.

Talking to reporters on Monday, Haq said the US dialogue with Taliban could lead to positive results which would help chalk out a long-term security plan for the region.

He said if Pakistan and Afghanistan served as mediators in the dialogue, then leadership of both countries would keep their national interests in view which could affect the process.

The JUI-S chief said the US-led allied forces and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were fighting in Afghanistan and they better hold direct talks.

To a question regarding his meeting with US ambassador to Pakistan, Haq said he had asked him about agenda of his country regarding Afghanistan and also questioned whether and what sort of cooperation would the US extend if the JUI-S mediated in the issue.

He said a democratic government had been formed in the country as a result of May 11 general elections and it was a suitable time to hold dialogues with militant groups.

Haq also stressed on the need to initiate a dialogue process with the TTP as soon as possible to save the country from further loss of life.
