National Security Policy to be announced soon: Nisar

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Sunday said the government would soon announce the National Security Policy.
Talking to a private TV channel, he said the government wanted to evolve a joint strategy with consensus of all stakeholders to overcome terrorism.
The minister said, “We are very clear on our stance as there will be no confusion in our policy as all the institutions are on one page to maintain peace and stability in the country.”
He said the people had sacrificed their lives and property in the war on terror, adding, “Now this is our war to save the future of our people and country.”
To a question, he said the government has completed its homework to set up a joint intelligence directorate for giving quick response during any act of terrorism.
He said the government would announce All Parties Conference (APC) soon to frame strategy to maintain peace and stability in the country.
Nisar said the government preferred negotiations with the Taliban with support of all political parties and security institutions to maintain peace in the country.
To another question, he said the government wanted negotiations on the Balochistan issue and has given the mandate to the Balochistan chief minister in this regard.
Separately, the minister directed to form a quick response force to timely respond to emergency situations.
Chairing a security-related meeting‚ the minister directed Islamabad Police to improve security of the capital.
Nisar also directed the police to further tighten the security at all entry and exit points of the capital.
He also approved the Capital Territory Local Government Act 2013. The new local government act provides for bridging the rural-urban divide, single tier system (based on wards, no union councils), a local government commission, effective enforcement of municipal functions.
Nisar also ordered for purchasing two modern stun guns for Islamabad police and Rangers.
The minister advised the officials to implement an integrated communication system and clearly define SOPs within a week’s time. He exhorted all officials to commit themselves to equal application of law at all levels, to uphold its highest standards in their decision making.
He assured the officials of full monetary support and facilitation from the quarters concerned on essential technical requirements of ICT Police and gave them one week to spell those out.
He desired reactivation of National Crises Management Cell on priority basis that should become a real crisis managing cell, with the appropriate level of threat identification and assessment/response system.
