Punjab govt decides to form District Health Authorities

The Punjab Government has decided to form District Health Authorities in 36 districts of the province.
These authorities will perform their duties of looking after the health facilities in hospitals, dispensaries and medical units, the supply of medicines, the recruitment of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff, the formation of a salary structure for the staff and the purchase of machinery for hospitals.
A CSP officer will be the head of each authority, while senior doctors, representatives of NGOs and elected local government members will be other authority members. The number of members will be different in each district ranging from five to nine.
The authorities will be formed right after the completion of the Local Government elections after which the offices and posts of the Executive District Health Officer and the District Health Officer will be ended.
