Hundreds of Mangla Dam affectees protesting for the acceptance of their demands made more than a dozen senior officials of Wapda and district administration hostage as they went for the inspection of a dyke in Chaksawari, constituency of AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed.
According to details, as the Wapda chief engineer, DIG, deputy commissioner, SSP, district and municipal administration officers of Mirpur reached Paniam in Chakswari, hundreds of affectees of Mangla Dam surrounded and forced them to take refuge in the house of son-in-law of the AJK prime minister.
All the efforts to negotiate with the protesting affectees to lift the siege failed for five and a half hours. The hostage officers tried to get out of the house through their vehicles but these attempts were also foiled.
Finally, Additional Superintendent of Police Mirpur Raja Irfan Saleem reached the venue with a heavy contingent of police force and arranged officers’ return journey to Mirpir through water boats.
However, the protesting affectees said they would not allow any government officer in their areas unless and until their genuine demands were accepted.
