Flood in River Indus inundates 400 villages

Flood in River Indus on Saturday submerged more than 400 villages, causing huge havoc and large scale migration of the local residents.
Contraction in the flow of floodwater on Guddu Barrage in River Indus has been recorded. Now the flow of water has declined to 374,000 cusecs. Whereas, the flow of floodwater is increasing near Sukkur. The floodwater has submerged more than 400 villages of Ghotki, Kashmor, Kandhkot, Pannu Akil, Sukkur, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Larkana and Naushahro Feroze districts.
At Sukkur barrage the level of water is increasing rapidly. Around 510,000 cusecs water was presently passing through the river.
The department of irrigation is busy with their heavy machinery and staff in repairing the embankments eroded by the flood water. The embankments affected by the flood water include Old Tori Bund, KK Bund, Qadir Pur Loop Bund, Nusrat Loop Bund, Begari Bund, Aqil Agani Bund, Ali Wahan Bund and Qureshi Bund.
According to the department of irrigation official, security measures are being taken at all river embankments to avoid any hazardous destruction and to ensure safety of the population.
The River Chenab is in high flood at Punjnad Headworks. High flood in the river is passing through Tehsil Jalalpur areas of Multan district and the Sheher Sultan and Ali Pur areas of Muzaffargarh district.
A flood emergency was declared in the areas around the Punjnad Headwork.
Flood has hit over 275 villages of Multan and Muzaffargarh districts.
In District Vehari‚ high flood in River Sutlej has inundated 41 villages of Tehsils Burewala and Mailsi.
Meanwhile‚ the flash flood in River Ravi has hit the Kabirwala and Abdul Hakim areas of Khanewal district where several villages are inundated.
