Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Gwadar-Kashgar economic corridor is of great importance as it will bring progress and prosperity to the country and generate employment opportunities.
Speaking at a briefing in Islamabad on Friday‚ he said about three billion people would benefit through this corridor.
He said this corridor would provide an opportunity to save time‚ cost and freight charges by using the GwadarPort.
Nawaz Sharif said that Gwadar-Kashghar economic corridor would open up interior of Pakistan. He said this corridor would benefit Gilgit-Baltistan‚ Khyber Pakhtunkhwa‚ Punjab‚ Balochistan and Sindh.
The prime minister said the port had the potential to make itself a free port. He said a special status like the Hong Kong could be awarded to Gwadar.
Referring to security situation in Pakistan‚ the premier said that menace of extremism and terrorism should be eliminated to bring the country back on the path of peace and progress.
Nawaz said China had shown its interest in underground railways in Karachi and Lahore. The prime minister was also given a detailed briefing about the project.
