Actor Sanjay Dutt has applied for a leave of furlough for the first time since his final incarceration. A source said that Dutt applied for a 14-day furlough under the jail manual rules that govern leave granted to a convicted prisoner. His application was made before the jail authorities at Yerwada prison on Monday. The leave manual stipulates such leave to ensure prisoners remain integrated with the society. Earlier, the actor, who has been incarcerated at the Yerwada jail since the last three months, had applied for 30-day parole to avail of medical treatment. Jail superintendent Yogesh Desai told TOI, “Around 20 days ago, Dutt applied for parole under the prescribed jail format. His parole application has been forwarded to the divisional commissioner, who will take a decision on the matter. The divisional commissioner decides on the application after seeking a report from the police station concerned. The prisoner’s behaviour is also considered while granting parole.” Desai said any convict can apply for parole at any point of time.
