US-banned madrasa leader goes undercover

Jamia Taleemul Quran Wal Hadith leader Sheikh Aminullah has gone undercover and has renamed his seminary Madrassa Taleemul Quran Wal Sunnah. The associated mosque has been renamed Masjid Hamza.

United States UnderSecretary of Financial Intelligence David S Cohen had issued a statement from Washington on August 20 banning the activities of Jamia Taleemul Quran and Aminullah. However, before the orders were issued, Aminullah and his close aides and relatives went undercover.

Talking to Pakistan Today on Wednesday, Qari Mohammad Ibrahim, who now runs the madrassa, said Aminullah had moved to an undisclosed location and that he was in good health.

Setting aside all US allegations against Aminullah and his institution, Ibrahim said the madrassa did not have any links with terrorists. “We are imparting Islamic education to the youth and children,” he said, adding that around 250 students were getting Islamic education in the madrasa.

Students and teachers were engaged in routine teaching and learning activities inside the madrassa The students have also expressed anger over the US-imposed ban, calling it unethical.

The US government has accused Aminullah and Jamia Taleemul Quran Wal Hadith of helping al Qaeda, Lashkar-e-Tayyaba and other militant groups associated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
