‘National grid to have 4,601 MW during 2012-13’

Over 4,601 MW hydroelectric power will be added to the national grid during the year 2012-13 aiming to mitigate the sufferings of the people, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif told National Assembly on Wednesday.

In a written the minister said, 3,347 MW capacity power (IPPs) had already been added to the system since 2008. Giving break up, he said 280 MW hydro power were at various stages including 130 MW capacity Duber Khawar, 94 MW Lareb Hydro Power Project, 17 MW Gomal Zam, 17 MW Satpara Dam project and 22 MW capacity Jabban Hydro Power Project.

Likewise, 3181 MW PEPCO’s/public power would be added to the system during 2012-13. The break up is Nandipur Power Project would add 425 MW power producing capacity, Chichoki Mallian set to add 525 MW, Guddu 750 MW, UAF Gifted Power Plant Faisalabad 320 MW, Lower Saptgah 496 MW, Lower Palas Valley would added 665 MW power to the national grid.

And Independent Power Producers (IPPs) are set to add 1140.5 MW power in the system in 2012-13 by completing 13 projects including Uch II will add 405 MW, Grange Holding 180 MW, Fauji Fertilizer Company Ltd, Sapphire Wing Power Co, Lucky Energy, New Pak Energy Pvt Ltd, Tenage Generasi Ltd and Three Gorges First Wing Firm Pakistan 50 MW each, Zolu Energy Pakistan Ltd 56.7 MW, Green Power Pvt Ltd, Beacon Energy, Dawood Power 49.5 MW each and Arabian Sea Wing energy would add 50.4 MW energy to the system.

The government has also conceived 10 long term projects to produce 19,373 MW power through various sources including 969 MW capacity Neelum Jhelum, 4500 MW Basha Dam, 1410 MW capacity Tarbela Extension, 106 MW Golan Gol, 84 MW Karam Tungi, 4320 MW Dasso, 7100 MW capacity Bonji Hydro Project, 740 MW Mangla Dam, 122 MW Kial Khawr and 22 MW Jabban Power Station.

The total share of Quetta Electric Supply Company (QUESCO) is 650-700 MW against demand of 1620 MW at present (excluding Makran). Electricity is being provided to Makran from Jakigor (Iran)

Due to constraints in the existing transmission infrastructure the optimal power drawing capacity safe drawl of power of QUESCO excluding Makran is 700 MW.

QUESCO is drawing 650 MW against a demand of 1620 MW. As a result, the total shortfall of electricity in the province at present is 970 MW instead of 375 MW.

Responding to a question of Qari Muhammad Yousaf, the minister said a sum of Rs 311.16 million were outstanding against the electricity consumers of Batagram from July 2010 to June 2011, Rs 405.73 million were outstanding against the power consumers of Batagram from July 2011 to June 2012 and the consumers of same city has to pay a sum of Rs 496.40 million in the year of July 2012 to June 2013.

He said the huge amount had been accumulated in the original bills of electricity due to non-payment by Batagram consumers during the last three years.
