The deployment of the army has been completed at all sensitive polling stations in Sindh. According to sources, troops have been stationed in and around all sensitive polling stations in Mirpurkhas Khairpur, Shikarpur, and Karachi.
Around 20 security officials are planned to be posted at every polling station in declared “sensitive” by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
According to the ECP’s plan, ten security personnel would be deployed at sensitive polling stations while five security persons would be deputed at all other polling stations. Soldiers would also be posted at extremely sensitive polling stations. All political parties ended their election campaigning at midnight, following the directives given of the ECP.
A public holiday has been announced for August 22 in 33 districts for the by-elections.
As many as 5 million people would vote in 15 constituencies and 3.7 million people are expected to vote for 26 seats of four provincial assemblies.
The ECP has instructed election commissioners to guarantee the provision of security to the voters and polling staff.
