BA/BSc result out: girls take the lead again

Once again outclassing their male counterparts, girls secured the first five positions in Punjab University (PU)’s 2013 BA/Bsc examinations. PU Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Liaqat Ali announced the position holders on Wednesday.
According to details, Gujranwala Civil Lines Punjab College for Women’s BSc Student Sadaf (roll number 21,914) achieved the overall first position by obtaining 706 marks out of 800. Faisalabad Punjab College of Science’s BSc student Sadia Nawaz (roll number 15,142) stood second by securing 699 marks while Sialkot’s Punjab College of Science’s BSc student Gulfam Shahzadi (roll number 124,414) stood third securing 684 marks. Toba Tek Singh’s private candidate Maria Nawaz (roll number 18,736) stood first in BA, securing 669 marks. Other private candidates who stood second and third, respectively, were Lahore’s Muhammad Fahad Arshad (roll number 84,208) with 666 marks and Gujranwala’s Chand Hayat Bibi (roll number 20,204) who obtained 664 marks.
Addressing the function, Liaqat said that the Quran had repeatedly stressed on the need to focus on education. PU Additional Registrar Prof Dr Aurangzeb Alamgir, Additional Controller Ahmed Ali Chatha, Acting Treasurer Rao Muhammad Sharif, Deputy Controller Examinations Khurram Inayat, heads of various departments, relatives of the position holders and other officers concerned were also present at the occasion. Liaqat said that Muslims ruled the world for centuries when they were equipped with knowledge. He said that the basic reason behind the downfall of the Muslim empire was their distance from education. He lauded Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for his vision of independence from ignorance and for his introduction of revolutionary reforms in the education sector in his previous tenure. On behalf of Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, he announced that free education would be provided to the position holders. He also announced Rs 200,000 for the examination staff for efficiently carrying out their duties.
9TH CLASS RESULT OUT: All the Punjab boards of intermediate and secondary education announced the results of 9th class on Wednesday.
In the Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), as many as 214,975 candidates appeared in the examination, out of which, 84,868 candidates passed. The overall success percentage remained 39.48 percent. Spokesman of the Lahore BISE said that candidates could get their result by sending an SMS to 80029 after writing their roll number.
