The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Printing Corporation of Pakistan (PCP) to produce original record about the appointment of Suleman Farooqi as the federal ombudsman.
The three-member bench, comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Azmat Saeed, resumed the hearing of a case regarding the appointment of Farooqi.
Petitioner Adil Gilani, who is also head of the Transparency International, presented the copy of record and alleged that the Law Department had tried to temper the original record.
During the course of proceedings, Wasim Sajjad, counsel for Farooqi, apprised the court that he was unaware of Tuesday’s hearing as he had received a notice that the case was fixed for August 28.
He said that his client was abroad and would appear in the court on August 28.
Chaudhry said that according to the order sheet, hearing was fixed for today (Tuesday). There could be some sort of a clerical mistake, he added.
The CJ observed that the bench’s composition would be changed on August 28 and fixed the matter on September 3. He directed Suleman Farooqi to appear in person on next date of hearing.
