Floods continue to play havoc in Punjab, Sindh

 

With most of the rivers playing havoc in Punjab, 50 more villages in the province were inundated on Tuesday as floodwater threatened Multan district.

Jehlum, Ravi, Chenab and Sutlej rivers were flowing in high flood. Reports said over 50 villages came under water in Jhang district, as floodwaters inundated hundreds of acres of agriculture land in the area.

The local administration was moving people to safer places, issuing warning for them to evacuate homes. The army is also assisting the district administration in relief and rescue activities.

Over 500 villages have been inundated in Multan, Jhang, Chiniot and Kamoke region owing to high flood in ChenabRiver.

Meanwhile in IndusRiver, the high flood peak entered Guddu Barrage in Sindh. Local authorities claimed that all protective dykes had been fortified.

Floodwaters have inundated thousands of acres of agriculture land in the Katcha areas of Sindh, inundating scores of villages in Kashmore, Kandhkot, Khairpur, Nawabshah and Dadu region, with people for Katcha areas leaving their homes for safer places due to rising flood waters.

In Kurram Agency, three children were killed as the roof of a house came down following the spate of rains for the last few days.

Sources said the death toll due to the recent rainfall rose to eight in Kurram Agency. Besides that, hundreds of mud houses have been destroyed in various parts of the agency, the sources added.
