The Supreme Court has directed the Islamabad High Court to decide the case pertaining to the appointment of chairman and member of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority within seven days.

The three-member SC bench, under the supervision of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, was hearing the case regarding sale of 3-G licences.

The court also sought explanation for the withdrawal of Rs 62 billion from the Universal Support Fund and postponed the hearing until September 2.

The CJP expressed his anger over delay in the appointment of the chairman and members of the PTA, asking how was the organisation functioning without a chairman and members. He said nobody had the authority to withdraw the amount from USF as it was neither tax nor revenue.

The court was told that former PTA chairman was removed on the orders of the high court, while the member had completed his tenure of service.
