HEC, Punjab govt join hands for the education sector

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Punjab government have agreed to undertake collaborative efforts to strengthen higher education sector in the province.

This was discussed in a meeting between Minister of Higher Education, Youth Affairs and Tourism Punjab Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan and HEC Chairperson Dr Javaid Laghari.

During the meeting, various issues pertaining to effective implementation of Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme, establishment of country’s first ever laptop manufacturing and assembling plant, idea of knowledge city at Lahore, establishment of foreign universities in different cities of Punjab, Enrollment Emergency Campaign, provision of internet connectivity to colleges and improvement of quality of college education throughout the province was discussed.

The minister lauded the contribution of HEC and its management for brining Pakistani higher education sector at par with international standards.

The minister also appreciated the idea of establishment of the country’s first ever laptop manufacturing and assembling plant and assured his utmost support in this regard. He was of the view that this step would not only help in strengthening indigenous capacity in laptop manufacturing and assembling but also create job opportunities for the masses.

It was discussed that The Board of Investment (BOI) would organise International Investors Conference soon for establishment of the country s’ first ever Laptop assembling and manufacturing plant.

Dr Javaid Laghari appreciated the steps of Punjab government to increase literacy rate and improving quality education and offering internet connectivity to colleges situated in the province. He termed the recent Enrollment Emergency Campaign a positive step towards an educated Pakistan.

Earlier, an important meeting on Enrollment Emergency Campaign was held under the Chairmanship of Mashhood Ahmad Khan. The meeting was attended by the Vice Chancellors and Executive District Officers (EDO’s) of Rawalpindi Division and other officials.

During the meeting, various issues regarding improving quality of education and promotion of extra-curricular activities were discussed in detailed. It was decided that proper performance evaluation mechanisms would be developed for teachers working in various educational institutions of the provinces.

Moreover, Punjab Ministry of Education is planning to establish a complaint cell to address various educational issues.
