Lahore’s Hindu community will celebrate the religious and traditional festival, Raksha Bandhan, today with immense zeal, fervor and zest.
The Evacuee Property Trust Board (EPTB) and other Hindu organisations in the city have arranged programs at various temples and other sites. Under the banner of the EPTB, the major gathering will be held at Ravi Road’s Karishna Mandir where a significant portion of the Hindu community will carry out their religious rituals.
Moreover, the Hindu Sudhar Sabha has also arranged a function near Shimla Hill where Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N)’s leaders will also join in on the Hindu community’s happiness. Hindu Sudhar President Sabha Amar Nat Randhawa told Pakistan Today that Mohsin Latif and other PML-N leaders will attend the function. However, he said that most functions in connection with the Raksha Bandhan (Rakhi) will be held at the residences of the Hindu’s.
He said that the sibling bond where sisters tie a rakhi (a decorated sacred thread) on the wrist of their brothers is a ritual of affirmation and affection between the siblings. The festival symbolises trust between the siblings, with the sister praying for the lifelong well-being of her brother who in turn vows to help and protect her.
The festival falls on the full moon day (Shravan Poornima) of the Shravan month of the Hindu lunisolar calendar.
He pointed out that this occasion also reminds us of the need to develop a sense of protection, not only for our sisters, but also for the society in general.
