- Walks, seminars mark Anti-Dengue Day to spread dengue awareness among masses
- TMA confiscates unwrapped tyres from 30 shops
City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif observed Anti-Dengue Day on Sunday to spread awareness among masses about the disease.
The main seminar in this regard was held in Potohar Town Hall which was presided over by Rawalpindi District Coordination Officer (DCO) Sajid Zafar. After the seminar, a walk, led by the DCO, from Potohar Town to Kutchery Chowk, was held to create dengue awareness among the masses.
Addressing the seminar, the DCO said that there was dengue threat during the next one and a half month and it was the duty of every citizen to come forward and join hands with the government functionaries in the preventive efforts.
The environment of houses and surroundings should be kept clean and the rain water should not be accumulated in the houses, he said.
The DCO said that teachers and officials of Health Department should convey this message door-to-door so that the citizens could be made aware about the preventive measures. The role of male and female teachers is also very important in this connection, he added.
Zafar further said that the teachers should also aware the students about the preventive measures so that this message could be conveyed largely. Suggestions from the citizens would also be welcomed in this regard, he added.
District Officer (DO) Health Dr Khalid Randhawa and the district entomologist also addressed the seminar and threw light on the importance of observing Anti-Dengue Day.
They said that the Health Department is using all its resources to curb the deadly disease but the cooperation of masses is sought to prevent the spreading of dengue larvae.
A documentary film about dengue was also played in the seminar. The DCO and DO Health distributed pamphlets containing instructions of prevention of dengue.
TMA IN ACTION: Rawal Town Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) under its campaign against dengue has confiscated unwrapped tyres from 30 shops from various city markets.
Town officer regulation, superintendent and inspectors conducted raids at Dhoke Ratta, Babu Lal Hussain Road, Cricket Stadium, Cha Sultan and other areas and confiscated unwrapped tyres.
The owners of tyre shops have also been warned that strict action would be taken against the violators of the orders and cases would also be registered against them.
The tyres were confiscated from tyre shops as the city district government had strictly warned the shopkeepers that tyres, new and old, should be properly packed and covered which would help reduce the risk of the dengue spreading.
Rawal Town administrator has urged the tyre shops owners to cooperate with the staff concerned so that solid steps could be taken to control the spread of dengue in the city.
The tyre puncture shops have also been directed to take all preventive steps; tyres should be properly wrapped so that rain water could not collect in tyres that could be a perfect breading place for dengue mosquitoes.
RESCUE 1122 MARKS ANTI-DENGUE DAY: Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) marked the Anti-Dengue Day on Sunday for organizing public awareness and preventive measures for dengue eradication in all districts of Punjab.
In this regard, all offices of Rawalpindi Emergency Service remained open and rescuers held dengue awareness walk from all rescue stations of Rawalpindi situated at Rawal Road, Civil Lines, Kalma Chaowk, Bahria Town, Pir Wadai and 17 Mile to their nearest areas to sensitise public about dengue virus.
The rescue teams visited shops and residential area to check dengue presence and highlighted breeding areas for dengue mosquitoes and preventive measure against it.
The District Emergency Officer Dr Abdur Rahman directed all station coordinators to ensure cleanness of rescue stations and the vehicles. The trainers of Rawalpindi Training Wing conducted awareness seminar for the rescuers at Central Rescue Station. Dr Abdur Rehman along with all officers also conducted inspection of all offices and rescue station to highlight the importance of cleanness against dengue virus.
Punjab Emergency Service Rescue 1122 Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer reviewed dengue arrangements and activities in a meeting held at Rescue 1122 Headquarters.
The meeting was attended by in-charges of different wings of the rescue service whereas the district emergency officers of Punjab were taken on board through video conference, who shared their experiences and activities in their relevant districts.
Dr Naseer also reviewed pictorial data of all districts regarding anti-dengue campaign and awareness messages displayed on emergency vehicles and Rescue Stations across the province. He also issued directions that cleanliness should be ensured throughout the year and anti-dengue measures should be taken on periodical basis for a dengue-free society.
The participants of the meeting briefed the DG that awareness activities have been conducted in all districts, which include dengue awareness walks in collaboration with City District Government, awareness seminars for community and preventive measures.
The district emergency officers also informed the chair that cleanliness measures have been executed at all Rescue Stations, office premises, water holding equipment, containers and places to ensure that no stagnant water is left which may cause dengue proliferation.
RAWALPINDI COMMISSIONER ROLLS UP SLEEVES AGAINST DENGUE: Rawalpindi Commissioner Khalid Masud Chaudhry on the Anti-Dengue Day on Sunday made surprise visits to various places in the city and inspected the steps taken by the Health and other departments concerned for safeguarding citizens from dengue.
The commissioner visited a graveyard in the area of Khyaban-e-Sir Syed and inspected the cleanliness arrangements. He directed to conduct larvacide activities in the graveyard with a view to kill dengue larvae besides removing rainwater accumulated at various places.
The commissioner also visited Government Boys Elementary School Shamshabad and inspected the classrooms and directed to ensure cleanliness in the school.
He showed his displeasure at the accumulation of rainwater in the debris dumped in the rear portion of the school and directed that debris be removed immediately to avoid breeding of mosquitoes.
Responding to complaints of the local citizens who gathered there during the visit of the commissioner, he issued instructions for de-watering of rainwater from the low lying places in the area.
The commissioner also inspected various junkyards, shops near Chungi No 4 and Dhoke Dalal. He directed the officers concerned of the administration that redundant and used tyres should properly be covered and the cleanliness should be ensured in tyre shops in a view to control spreading dengue larvae.
