A division bench of the Lahore registry of the Supreme Court (SC) directed the owners of Efroze Pharmaceutical Company to approach the Drug Appellate Board (DAB) to unseal a section of their medicine factory.
The bench comprised of Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and Justice
Sheikh Azmat Saeed.
Earlier, the company’s counsel, via an application, pleaded to the bench to issue the directions for unsealing the factory’s Isotab manufacturing section under the Drugs Act. The factory was closed after medicine related deaths at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC).
However, a deputy attorney general told the court that a DAB had been constituted which was authorised to hear the matter. He contended that the petitioners should approach the board to redress their grievances.
A provincial law officer submitted a report on behalf of the Punjab government regarding an offer made by Efroze’s owners to compensate the affectees.
After hearing the proceedings, the bench adjourned the matter and directed the petitioners to appear before the DAB on August 20 regarding the unsealing of this particular section.
