Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday said he is committed to implementing his party’s election manifesto in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa otherwise there is no need to remain in power.
“Change will be commenced from Peshawar and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the world would see a new Pakistan from this region within a month,” he said while addressing a ceremony arranged in connection with launching of ‘Right to Information’ at a hotel.
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak also spoke on the occasion.
Access to right of information law through an ordinance was enforced on August 13 and was formally launched on Sunday. The KP became first ever province, launching the law aimed at enabling people of getting info regarding government policies and schemes.
Without mentioning name of any rival political party or its leader, Imran Khan replied to allegations levelled against him, claiming, “All of them would get surprised in a couple of months as he and his aides are determined to implement the agenda of PTI, agenda of change from Peshawar and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.”
Giving right of information to KP residents is the beginning, he said, adding, “We are going to make three other laws shortly.”
Imran Khan said that new laws will be included, right to services, establishment of independent accountability commission; and conflict of interests. He said lawmakers would not engage them in personal business and trade. Whereas under right to services, people, without any discrimination and classification, would have equal rights in getting social services such as health, education, clean drinking water and better living environment.
The PTI chairman made it clear that his party was determined to ensure good governance and proper use of resources. He said that all those who had plundered national wealth would get exemplary punishment. The PTI government would be a symbolic government and on its performance, the party would establish routes in rest of the country.
Referring to security policies, Imran Khan said, “Our proposals and suggestions have already been made part of the federal policy aimed at restoration of peace and writ of law in the country.”
He said that in a few days the KP government would introduce its own security policies. He said being the party chief he has the right to intervene in the KP government’s affairs and ensure its acts and policies according to his party manifesto.
Later, Imran Khan addressed an election rally in connection with NA-1 by-election. PTI candidate Gul Badhshah is contesting election for the constituency. ANP candidate Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour is contender from NA-1.
In his address to the PTI workers, Imran Khan focused on replying to allegations levelled against him by the ANP and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl leaders.
In his first ever speech to the party workers after May 11 general elections, Imran Khan thanked the people of Peshawar for reposing confidence in him and hoped that in by-elections they would elect his party candidate.
Meanwhile, talking to media after visiting the residence of slain PTI leader Zahra Shahid Hussain in Karachi, Imran Khan said his party would extend unqualified backing to the government for its policy against terrorism.
He said sacrifice rendered by Zahra Shahid Hussain would not go waste.
The responsibility of law and order in Karachi is rested with police, not the Rangers; however, it is vital that police be depoliticised and system be set in order, the PTI chief asserted, adding, “Restoration of peace is our topmost priority and we will support the federal government for the purpose.”
To a question, the PTI chairman said he intended to hold a public gathering in Karachi; but, the security agencies warned him about a potential attack.
The party has readied the proposals for counterterrorism policy, which will be presented as and when the government wishes, he added.
