The increasing number of dengue patients in city compelled the district government to adopt precautionary measures in addition to launching awareness campaigns regarding the virus’s prevention, including the launch of the Anti-Dengue Day which is being observed in the city on Sunday (today).
Almost all the district government departments including the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) will observe the Anti-Dengue Day today. Different activities including seminars and walks have been planned to create awareness regarding dengue control among the masses.
WASA has arranged a walk in Gulberg while awareness seminars and walks will be held at all six LDA Model schools situated in Allama Iqbal Town, Johar Town, Sabazar and Gulshan-e-Ravi today.
Awareness material regarding the causes and the prevention of dengue will also be distributed at this occasion to create awareness about the virus among the general public.
All the teaching and non- teaching staff of LDA’s schools will be on duty at this occasion. Students of these schools will participate in the seminars and walks arranged in their schools, respectively.
Directors concerned of the LDA were also nominated as focal personnel for ensuring cleanliness of their offices and workplaces, respectively.
These personnel will submit reports regarding the cleanliness of their premises, respectively, on the same day.
A special cleanliness drive of all LDA offices and junkyards was carried out on Saturday, for the fourth consecutive day since August 14, in an effort to eradicate mosquito larva breeding sites.
Banners were prominently displayed at all the LDA office buildings. Thousands of awareness pamphlets regarding the causes and stating ways to prevent contracting the dengue fever were also distributed among the LDA’s staff.
The number of dengue fever patients across Punjab reached 1,500 after the recent rains. Doctors told media personnel that the dengue mosquitoes became active in hot areas. As dengue was spreading in Karachi, Punjab’s government adopted precautionary measures to prevent the outbreak of dengue in the province.
