The City Traffic Police issued 6,146 driving licences from the Arfa Kareem Testing Centre this year.
Chief Traffic Officer Sohail Chaudhry said that the police had issued 5,650 learner permits and 496 permanent driving licences from the centre.
He directed the Arfa Kareem IT Tower Testing Centre In charge and the Licensing Deputy Superintendent (DSP) to take driving tests on three days per week.
All citizens could get learner permits of a car and motorcycle from the centre, he added.
Additionally, he said that the citizens could visit the centre for driving tests on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Earlier, this facility was available only for women and elderly citizens, he added.
Chaudhry said that another testing centre was operational at Thokar Niaz Baig’s City Traffic Police Line to facilitate citizens in getting fresh driving licences. Furthermore, he said a mobile testing unit was also operational for making driving licences available on the doorsteps of the citizens.
Additionally, five mobile learner permit booths and three mobile vans were also working under the door to door license policy, he added.
Chaudhry said that the City Traffic Education Unit had organized lectures in different colleges, universities, bus stands and other sites to create awareness about the benefits of driving licences.
