Pakistan contingent of 96 players and officials will take part in nine disciplines of the 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games being held from September 22 in Riau, Indonesia.
“We will be taking part in athletics, badminton, basketball, karate, swimming, tennis, taekwondo, volleyball and wushu,” said Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) president Maj Gen (retd) M Akram Sahi here on Friday.
The formation of Pakistan contingent is as athletics (13), badminton (6), basketball (15), karate (9), swimming (9), tennis (9), taekwondo (9), volleyball (15) and wushu (6) while five officials are also accompanying them.
The POA chief said that all-out efforts would be put into prepare a strong contingent for participation in Games. “We will be imparting best possible training to our athletes and training camps will start functioning soon,” he said.
He also advised athletics, badminton, basketball, karate, swimming, tennis, taekwondo and volleyball federations to select the players purely on merit and to arrange their camps under the supervision of experienced coaches to brighten chances for winning medals in the Games. “In this connection, essential coordination has been done with Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) to make all the necessary arrangements for boarding, lodging and training of teams at Jinnah Sports Complex, Islamabad,” he added.
It is going to be the first international competition for the POA after the election of Gen Sahi as its president.
