Floods in rivers and nullahs due to recent torrential rains wreaked havoc in various cities and villages of Punjab and Sindh, disrupting communication links besides destroying the infrastructure leaving thousands of people homeless.
Hundreds of families are forced to stay under open sky in miserable condition despite claims of provincial governments and authorities concerned.
Dozens of towns in both provinces were cut with main cities which has resulted delay in relief activities besides shortage of food commodities and medicines further adding to the miseries of the affected people.
More than 200 villages in Sheikhupura were inundated due to flooding in Nullah Dek on Saturday while traffic between Muridke and Narowal was disrupted due to collapse of a bridge at a canal.
Nullahs Dek, Bheer and Saim had inundated various villages, including Kot Pathana, Baowali, Kisowala, Rajputan,Ladhywala, Kala Khatayi, Kala Shah Kaku, Shami Park, Pind Das, Ali Dogran, Pathan Colony, Khalid Town, Bashir Town, Chak 42, 47,50, Ziaabad, Iqbal Town, Jamal Town, Madni Gardan, Jevanpura and other adjacent areas.
Meanwhile, DCO Ali Jaan Khan said rescue operation in the flood-hit areas was going on through rescue teams which were providing all possible facilities to affected people.
Over 113,000 cusec water passed through Trimu head works on Saturday afternoon and the water level was rising, officials said.
A high flux of floodwater is expected to reach Trimu within six hours. It may be 385,000 cusecs. Over 150 villages and areas of Jhang, Ahmedpur Sial, Athara Hazari and Shorkot tehsils have been completely damaged by floodwater. No loss of human life was reported but a large number of cattle have drowned in the water.
However, people are still in inundated areas and they did not want to leave.
According to sources, these villages were submerged and standing crops on several hundred acres destroyed due to high flood in River Tawi, Nullah Dek and Basantar. The Narowal road has also been closed for traffic, disconnecting the road link with Muridke.
Moreover, road links and bridges were washed away by the gushing water in Sialkot and Rajanpur, as a result people were left stranded.
Flood in the River Chenab is currently crossing the Head Qadirabad where the local residents have already vacated their places and are facing severe commotion. A bridge was washed away in Sialkot due to high tide in the River Tawi.
More than two-dozen villages of Sialkot and Gujranwala were submerged in floodwater. An unfortunate incident occurred in village Bhaiya where two children died while trying to save the livestock in the village.
Flood warning has been issued for more than 150 villages adjacent to Chiniot near River Chenab.
Flood warning has also been issued for five tehsils due to high flood in River Sutlej.
Water level has increased alarmingly in River Indus, inundating several areas of Kashmor, Ghotki, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Khairpur, Dadu and Thatta in Sindh.
Several villages located close to bigger Hamal Lake in Qambar-Shahdadkot and Manchhar Lake in Jamshoro districts were inundated.
As many as 30 villages were inundated as the water level increased at Dadu-Moro Bridge in River Indus.
The Provincial Disaster Management Cell (PDMA) has issued warning after the situation became alarming. The commissioner directed authorities to get the areas vacated to avoid loss of human lives. The flood is also expected in parts of Sukkur and Larkana divisions.
