Relief, rehab of flood victims govt’s top priority: Shahbaz

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that protection of life and property, provision of relief and rehabilitation of flood victims was top priority of the government.
He expressed these views during a briefing about rivers situation at Trimu Headworks, Jhang. He directed divisional commissioners and DCOs to keep vigilant eye on flood situation in rivers and personally supervise the areas adjoining to rivers.
He said that no negligence or delay would be tolerated in this regard. He said that no stone would be left unturned for protection of life and property of flood victims.
The chief minister said that all necessary measures would be taken on emergent basis for coping with any possible flood in the coming days to keep the loss at minimum level. He directed that people should be informed timely about the possible flood and all arrangements should be complete. He directed divisional commissioners and district administration to personally monitor the flood water situation in all rivers. He said that the relief activities should be further accelerated.
The chief minister also ordered that dry ration, drinking water, medicines, tents and other items should be arranged for flood victims in a large quantity. He said that concrete measures should be taken on precautionary basis for coping with the threat situation arising due to the expected increase of water in rivers in next few days.
Shahbaz expressed his deep concern on the increase of water in river Chenab due to construction of new bridge on the river between Shorkot and Gharh Maharaja.
While taking immediate notice, he directed Faisalabad commissioner and Jhang DCO to find out immediate solution of this problem in the public interest and all necessary steps should be taken immediately for saving Gharh Maharaja from flood water. He said that officials of National Highway Authority should also be contacted immediately for solution of this important problem.
