Five tyre shops sealed for housing dengue larva

Under the continuous threat of dengue fever epidemic, the authorities in the provincial capital have accelerated their efforts to snub the dengue larva after recent rains. On Thursday, City District Government Lahore on finding of dengue larva sealed five shops in tyre market at Naulakha. As per details, Provincial Minister Bilal Yasin and the district administration raided the market where hundreds of tyres were lying in five shops without adopting appropriate precautionary measures with dengue larva present. Upon this all the shops were sealed and FIRs against the owners of the shops were lodged. However, the owners successfully managed to escape from the scene, while police has started action to arrest them. On the other hand, Environment Protection Department (EPD) Punjab has accelerated its special operation for prevention of dengue during the ongoing monsoon season. This was noted in a meeting of EPD presided over by Minister for Environment Protection Col (R) Shuja Khanzada the other day. The minister was apprised that anti-dengue teams were been assigned special duties of inspection. During the past two months the department has inspected 12,614 places in all the 36 districts of Punjab and issued 4,367 notices, sealed 27 and lodged 31 FIR’s against various tyre shops, warehouses, scrap yards and under construction sites for ignoring the guideline regarding dengue. The special anti-dengue squads of EPD inspected 2,018 places in the city. The minister said that Punjab government was committed to provide healthy life to the masses for which every possible measure was being taken. He noted that EPD has been working actively to implement anti-dengue measures as per directions of Chief Minister Punjab.
