Punjab Minister for Education, Sports and Archeology Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan on Friday said the government was making all-out efforts to improve the existing education system and to increase the literacy rate in Punjab.
He said the government has launched the Enrollment Emergency Campaign to increase the enrollment rate, focusing on children unable to get admission in schools due to various reasons.
Presiding over a meeting held at Higher Education Commission (HEC) he said, “The main objective of the campaign is to get rid of ignorance and for increased close coordination among concerned departments besides working efficiently to make the drive successful.”
The meeting was attended by Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Chairman Dr Muhmmad Ashraf, Fatima Jinnah Women University Vice Chancellor Dr Samina Qadir, Executive District Officer (Education) Qazi Zahoor-ul-Haq, Director Colleges Rawalpindi Dr Abdul Qayyum Bhatti, Divisional Sports Officer Shah Manzir Farid and Executive District Officers (Education) from Jhelum, Chakwal and Attock.
Rana Mashhood said a complaint cell was being set up to swiftly resolve the problems faced by the education department to help achieve the literacy rate target. He said that he would pay surprise visits to check working of schools, adding that computer labs and video conferencing facilities would also be provided at elementary schools. He also said that public and private partnership would be promoted for the provision of all required facilities at educational institutions.
Furthermore, the minister stated that seminars and various walks would be organised jointly by the Education Department, Higher Education Commission and different universities to create awareness about diseases such as Dengue Fever in connection with the Anti-Dengue day being observed on August 18.
