The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government presented its development programme to international donor agencies on Thursday during a one-day conference on Strategic Development Partnership Framework in Islamabad.
The KP chief secretary chaired the meeting. The additional chief secretaries, secretaries of different departments of the province and representatives of a large number of international donor agencies, including the World Bank, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) were present.
Pakistan-based representatives of the donor agencies were briefed about the KP government’s development and growth programme.
A strategy for the next five years was chalked out in accordance with the agenda of political parties in the KP coalition government.
A scheme to achieve the Millennium Development Goals and other development targets was also prepared.
The participants were informed that in the past, different development programmes, including Post Crisis Need Assessment, Comprehensive Development Strategy and Economic Growth Strategy were launched but were unsuccessful.
The present KP government, soon after assuming charge, decided to invest in the province’s natural resources.
It plans to provide cheap electricity to investors for the installation of industries to create employment opportunities.
The donors’ community appreciated the government’s initiatives and said it would fully cooperate with the government to give a practical shape to the strategy.
Another conference, to be chaired by KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, was planned for mid-September for better coordination among the donors to make an operational strategy for the programme.
