Intelligence agencies have warned the federal and Punjab governments that a banned militant organisation may kidnap or kill the Chinese nationals for the release of its hardcore cadres from the Punjab jails.

After the intelligence reports, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif ordered Chief Secretary Javed Aslam, Home Secretary Major (r) Azam Suleman and IG Khan Beg to beef up security for the Chinese, Turks and other foreign nations.

According to reports, the Punjab government has stopped unnecessary movement of Chinese workers at the Nandipur power and other projects and increased their security.

The intelligence report said that foreigners, particularly the Chinese, faced serious threats from a banned organisation as dozens of its activists were imprisoned in Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Sahiwal, Mianwali and DG Khan jails.

The provincial government immediately took notice of the report and increased security at the jails to counter any attack like that of DI Khan jail.
