United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon Tuesday urged Pakistani youth to not to compromise on seeking education, despite threats being posed to the educational institutions.
While addressing an event focusing the youth and education at Islamabad College for Girls, he stressed that the right to education should not be for some but for all girls and boys in Pakistan. He maintained that the goal of the United Nations was to provide better schooling and quality education to the children across the globe.
“I want all children and young people to have equal learning opportunities. This is why I launched my Global Education First Initiative last year,” Ban Ki-moon elaborated.
Quoting the founder of the nation Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the UN chief said, “It was Quaid who said that no nation can rise to the height of glory unless your women are side by side with you.”
Making comparison to the various threats being posed to the schools with his early education Ban Ki-moon said that he grew up in Korea just after the war and like many young people in Pakistan, the then Korea had to struggle for its education. Korean schools had been destroyed and were lacking classroom and relevant supplies.
Pointing towards Malala Yusufzai, the Pakistani teen who was recently appointed UN ambassador for education, United Nations secretary general mentioned that Malala’s speech was powerful and moving which she delivered at UN General Assembly, adding that Malala was a famous student but she acted like a teacher.
