Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday emphasised the need for effective coordination among provinces to curb the menace of terrorism.
Nawaz visited the Ministry of Interior where Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan and Interior Secretary Qamar Zaman Chaudhry briefed him on the outline of new counterterrorism policy.
The prime minister directed the authorities concerned to formulate such a security policy that envisaged an effective mechanism for elimination of terrorism. He said terrorism was not confined to one area and collective efforts were required for the maintenance of peace in the country.
The prime minister said the government was determined to ensuring protection of life and property of the people. “Security institutions should enhance cooperation with the intelligence agencies to check the terrorist incidents,” he said.
The recommendation for the constitution of a new anti-terrorist force and the idea of consultation with political leaders also came under discussion.
