In view of the recent rains and floods, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif has directed the divisional commissioners and district administrations to monitor the flow of water in rivers and water channels round the clock, and immediately inform the institutions concerned in case of any emergency.
He said that institutions concerned should maintain close contact with each other to control any untoward situation arising from the rains and the potential floods and finalise their preparations and arrangements in this regard.
Shahbaz said that he is standing with the flood affected people in this hour of trial and would make all-out efforts for their permanent rehabilitation. He said that the elected representatives, with the help of the district administration, should take the necessary steps in their area to deal with any situation caused by the potential weather situation.
Furthermore, the CM said that the divisional commissioners, district administration and the institutions concerned should remain fully alert to cope with any emergency, adding that people have given a historic mandate to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the general elections, therefore, it is the duty of the elected representatives to remain with the masses in these testing times and work with the administration for resolving the problems of the affectees.
He said that relief activities have been started in Rajanpur, Mianwali and Sialkot, all of which have been badly affected by floods. He said that no effort will be spared for the rehabilitation of the flood-hit people and for their early return to their homes.
Moreover, Shahbaz said that the losses sustained by the flood affectees will be compensated in light of a survey which will be carried out in the flood-hit areas.
He warned that no laxity or negligence would be tolerated in the relief and rehabilitation process.
He directed the authorities concerned to ensure the constant monitoring of the protective spurs of rivers and canals and for the completion of necessary arrangements to deal with any emergent situation.
He said that the government would stand with the calamity-stricken citizens and ensure their complete rehabilitation.
