The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) office bearers in Punjab in a press conference on Monday have highlighted pre-poll rigging in the upcoming by-elections by the incumbent regime.
The PTI office bearers including Punjab President Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry and General Secretary Dr Yasmeen Rashid alleged that “pre poll rigging in by-elections 2013 is on its peak”.
Yasmeen further said that development funds being used by the government to promote their candidates in national and provincial constituencies is against the ECP laws.
Chaudhry said that in NA-68 Sargodha PTI candidates are being threatened by local police and are forced to support PML-N candidate while Ministers in Punjab are using federal and government vehicles for election campaigns of PML-N by-elections candidates.
Chaudhry said that PP-161 Lahore PML-N candidate’s brother and CCPO Lahore Shafique Chaudhry is using government machinery and local police for election campaign for PML-N candidate. He further alleged that 3,200 votes were casted to Shahbaz Sharif from Ashiana Housing Scheme whereas there is not even a single voter in Ashiana Housing Scheme. Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhry said that PTI will submit this pre-poll rigging report to ECP.
He has demanded ECP to install CCTV cameras in each polling station and to deploy Pakistan Army in polling stations during August 22 by-elections. He has also demanded ECP to allow the press to enter polling stations. He said that PTI is soon releasing white paper which will unveil the rigging done in May’s General Elections.
Earlier the Lahore High Court restrained Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) from interfering in PP-161’s by-elections. Justice Shahid Waheed passed the order on a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Candidate Khalid Waheed. The court also sought a reply from the Pakistan Election Commission till August 13 (today). After hearing the argument, the court restrained the CCPO from interfering in the by-elections.
