Commissioner, IGP review I-Day security measures

The Independence Day celebrations will begin with special prayers for progress and development of the country and for the general well being of its citizens said Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Siddiqui on Monday.
Chairing a meeting to review measures adopted for implementation of decisions previously made for the day by the city’s administration and other departments concerned, he said the occasion had to be made safe and enjoyable by putting in place extraordinary security measures for the benefit of civilians.
The meeting among others was also attended by Additional Commissioner (II) Haji Ahmad, deputy commissioners from different districts of the city, media director, head of Quaid-e-Azam Board and other relevant organisations.
“We ought to convince citizens to cooperate with the administration in commemorating the national Independence Day in the most befitting manner,” he said.
The meeting approved that the main official event of August 14th in the metropolis would be held, as usual, on the premises of Quaid-e-
Azam’s resting place.
The main events would include Flag Hoisting Ceremony and would be attended by VVIPs as well as citizens belonging to different walks of life.
The commissioner also ordered immediate measures for a sort of mop-up exercise focussed on cleanliness and careful pruning of vegetation, with due care also given towards aesthetics around the mausoleum premises.
Furthermore, he directed that a traffic management plan be developed for the occasion with active involvement of boy scouts association.
He said each and every citizen of the metropolis had to participate in the celebrations with due care for sanctity as well as festivity attached to the occasion.
Siddiqui, on the occasion, also appreciated the plan adopted by Directorate of School Education to celebrate the day in both public and private sector schools in the city.
On the other hand, Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shahid Baloch had issued immediate orders for revamping the security arrangements being made in the province on eve of national Independence Day.
“The emerging law and order situation during the last few days demand extreme care towards safety of citizens keen to celebrate the day with due zeal and fervour,” he told senior cops during a meeting to review security arrangements.
The IGP ordered that police in close coordination with the city administration must also take upon itself the strict compliance of the security arrangements being made and finalised by them.
