Eidul Fitr prayers were held at open places‚ mosques and Eidgahs in all major cities and towns on Friday.
The ‘ulema’(religious scholars) highlighted the significance of Eidul Fitr in their sermons.
Special prayers were also offered for the progress and prosperity of the country and welfare of the Muslim ummah, including early liberation of occupied Muslim territories such as Kashmir and Palestine.
In the federal capital, the main Eid congregation was held at Shah Faisal Mosque where parliamentarians‚ envoys of Muslim countries and senior government officials offered Eid prayers along with hundreds of people.
Security was beefed up all over the country to avoid any untoward incident on the auspicious occasion.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif offered Eid prayers at Jati Umra, Raiwind along with the party workers. On this occasion, the PM prayed for the peace and prosperity of the country.
In a brief address after the Eid prayer, the PM said his government had inherited the present problems from the former government and would have to overcome them with resolve, dedication and commitment.
He said the people of Pakistan trusted the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government and soon Pakistan’s economy would boost up and Pakistan would become a developed nation.
Expressing his views on load shedding, the PM said under his government the country was witnessing a gradual decrease in power outages; and to overcome this menace, projects were being started with the cooperation of China, using alternative energy resources.
The PM expressed his grief over the Quetta terrorist attack and prayed for the martyrs.
Sharif said his government was determined to tackle the law and order situation.
Meanwhile, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar called on the PM at Raiwind and exchanged Eid greetings.
President Asif Ali Zardari offered Eid prayers at a mosque near Bilawal House in Karachi.
Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad and Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah called on President Zardari and exchanged Eid greetings.
Former chief election commissioner Fakhruddin Ebrahim also exchanged Eid greetings with the president.
President-elect Mamnoon Hussain offered Eid prayers at a state guest house in Karachi.
Soon after offering Eid prayers, the residents of the twin cities rushed to Rawal Lake View Park, Rawal Dam, Fatima Jinnah Park, Shakarparian, Daman-e-Koh and Pir Sohawa,Nawaz Sharif Park, Ayub Park, Safari Park, Race Course and Jinnah Park to enjoy Eid.
“It is very exciting to enjoy Eid at this recreational spot,” said Javed Khan, who had come to Rawal Lake View Park with his family.
“We are having a lot of fun and we are also planning to cook a meal,” said Muhammad Qasim, who was at Pir Sohawa with his friends.
Though public transport was thin on the roads and taxi
drivers were charging exorbitantly, a large number of people thronged the recreational spots.
Many vehicles were parked in the parking areas of Daman-e-Koh and Pir Sohawa, something not witnessed usually.
“It is nice to visit a picnic spot during Eid holidays,”
said a student, Naeem Khan, at NawazSharifPark.
