Eid moon likely to be sighted on Thursday: Met Office

There is high probability of the Eidul Fitr moon being sighted on Thursday August 8 (Ramadan 29) said Meteorological Department Director General (DG) Arif Mehmood.

The Met Office DG said it was necessary for the moon to attain the age of 41 hours to become visible.

“The moon will grow older than 41 hours on Thursday,” he said.

“However, it may be difficult to sight the moon due to the sky being overcast,” he said.

The Met Office announced that the moon would be clearly visible in Balochistan and Sindh but the chances of sighting the moon in Punjab on Thursday were 50 percent.

Pakistan will celebrate Eidul Fitr on August 9 if the moon is sighted on August 8.

The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will formally convene on August 8 for the sighting of the Eidul Fitr moon.
