Boy drowns in nullah, 47 Sialkot villages submerged in floodwater

A 12-year-old boy drowned in the flooded Nullah Bhed on Tuesday as floodwater inundated Sialkot city and 47 villages in the area.

Arsalan was standing near the nullah when he fell into it and drowned, sources said.

Torrential rains have flooded Nullah Bhed, which passes through congested residential and industrial areas of the city.

Torrential rains and winds also affected the electricity and communication systems due to which the supply of electricity remained suspended for several hours in urban and rural areas of Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils.

The recent heavy rains exposed the negligence of Sialkot Tehsil Municipal Administartion (TMA) as all main roads, including Kutchery Road, Paris Road, Abbot Road, Jail Road, Railway Road, Mujahid Road, Commissioner Road, Khadim Ali Road, Sialkot Airport Road, Hajipura Road, Allama Iqbal Chowk and all the surrounding congested residential, industrial and commercial areas were submerged in rainwater and sewage.

Meanwhile, flooding in Nullah Dek inundated 47 villages of Pasrur, Zafarwal, Qila Ahmedabad and surrounding areas.

Senior officials of the Irrigation Department said over five foot floodwater had accumulated in 47 villages of Pasrur, Zafarwal, Qila Ahmedabad and surrounding areas, including Jabbokey, Nawaadhey, Chahoor, Machchaana, Eispur, Seehowal, Mehtabpur, Hunjali, Tharo Mandi, Shehzada, Bharat, Khewa Bajwa and others.

Agricultural land spread over hundreds of acres was also inundated, they said.
