‘What causes flooding other than water?’ wonders PPP leader

While army and navy personnel were busy in providing relief to the rain affectees, some leaders were contemplating about the causes for the excessive flooding witnessed by the metropolis during the last three days.

This was stated by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Sindh General Secretary Taj Haider in a press statement issued on Monday. “If we do not identify the real causes and take remedial measures now this calamity will strike again” he said.

The rains were but the storm water should’ve drained away, stated the PPP politician. Meanwhile, hill torrents played havoc in Malir district, something which was a first.

The mentioned causes for the slides in the central district were stated to be a steep gradient, with the hills on one side and Gujro Nalah and Lyari on the other. The faulty design of Lyari expressway and the accumulation of silt meanwhile turned the thoroughfare into a canal.

The hill torrents which afflicted the metropolis rand won old waterways. The mudlsides had never before flowed down to SaadiTown and Safoora Goth. One reason for the storm water taking this new route can be that the thousands of illegal encorachments around the Northern Bypass had cut off all the natural waterways

Taj Haider asked for immediate identification of what he called the ‘real’ causes and taking of remedial action, since the rains had only started and much more were yet to come.

The PPP top brass appealed to all its workers and activists to get their shoes wet by aiding the citizens in this time of calamity.
