PM sacks TDAP head over alleged misappropriation of Rs 1.27b

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday sacked Trade Development Authority of Pakistan Chief Executive Abid Javed Akbar Ali and referred a case involving misappropriation of Rs 1.27 billion in the authority to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

The prime minister referred the case to the FIA, asking it initiate criminal proceedings against all officials involved in the misappropriation.

Nawaz is reported to have issued stringent orders for taking officials of the Ministry of Commerce and private companies involved in the scam to task.

He asked for initiating disciplinary proceedings against all officers responsible, including former TDAP secretary Abdul Kabir Qazi and Facilitation Director General Abdul Karim Daud Pota.

Nawaz also ordered to carry out a special audit of the last two-year accounts of the TDAP.

  1. The new Government has, about a month back, initiated a transparent methodology of recruiting best talent, including attracting Pakistani diaspora, for top positions in semi-autonomous/autonomous Government controlled Organizations.
    Incidentally, this included the CEO for TDAP.
    Talented individuals have responded; all concerned are requested to expedite & finalize this appointment.
