PIA floats tenders for purchasing of 6 aircrafts

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has issued tenders on national and international level for the purchase of six aircraft. Sources said Boeing and small airbuses would be purchased to increase strength flights of PIA. In the three-month process, tenders would be completed and aircraft would be inducted in airline’s fleet by November 4. Per details, PIA Board approved to get five Boeing 777 last year and these planes would be purchased in 2015. Currently, the PIA has 32 aircraft of which 25 are operational, while others have been grounded for maintenance.

  1. PIAshould go for leasing of aircraft, which is more economical. The only problem with leasing is that commissions and kickbacks are lesser and therefore not very attractive to those in power.
