The death toll from heavy rains and subsequent floods has climbed to more than 55 per official estimates, however, unofficial numbers put the deaths around at least 70 in rain and flood-related incidents across the country.
National Disaster Management Authority member Brig Kamran Zia on Monday said at least 12 deaths were record in the Tribal Areas, eight in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and three in Azad Kashmir.
He said at least 12 people died across Punjab, 10 in Balochistan and at least 8 in Sindh.
However, the official figures might be put in doubt by media reports which claimed that at least 16 people had been killed in Karachi in the last two days.
Zia said flooding was especially critical in Karachi because of a faulty drainage system there.
Rescue and relief activities continued in rain and flood-hit areas in all four provinces on the special instructions of the prime minister.
Pakistan Army‚ Navy and local administration have accelerated the relief operations in rain-affected areas of Karachi, including Amroha Society, SaadiTown, Sunlay Cottages and adjoining areas.
A body of 12-year-old youth was found from Lyari drain near Meeran Naaka, while two unidentified bodies were found from Malir Nadi in Manzoor Colony area of Mehmoodabad.
Pakistan Navy has set up relief camps in JalbaniTown and Gadap Town., while Sindh Rangers also set up a relief camp in Lasi Goth to provide relief to the rain-hit people.
The Inter-Services Public Relations said army troops rescued over three hundred trapped people in rain-hit areas of Karachi and provided them urgent rations.
On the other hand, the Punjab government has dispatched 94 trucks carrying edibles and commodities to flood-affected areas of Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif also visited Rajanpur district to take stock of the situation.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa‚ the Provincial Disaster Management Authority has taken measures to control the situation and compensate the affected people.
It has dispatched consignments of relief goods containing tents‚ blankets and clean drinking water to the flood-hit areas of Chitral‚ Tank and Dera Ismail Khan.
In Balochistan‚ the Provincial Disaster Management Authority has stepped up relief activities in flood-hit areas and dispatched several consignments of relief goods for flood victims in Jhal Magsi‚ Bolan and Jaffarabad districts.
Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch said the government would make all out efforts for the wellbeing of rain victims in the province.
In a statement ‚ he appreciated the performance of government agencies in flood-hit areas of the province, adding that the situation was under control due to timely efforts.
