The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) will issue chip-based Smart National Identity Cards (SNIC) for children below 18 years of age.

The card would offer value-added services, including health, educational, social and financial services, said a NADRA official on Monday.

“SNICs for children are being issued after the successful launch of the chip-based SNIC for adults,” he said.

“The Child Registration Certificate will remain valid and NADRA would continue to issue it as per the current registration policy,” he said.

The official termed the launch of SNICs as a means of protecting the children’s identity.

“The card will be valid till the child’s 18th birthday and will incorporate all the features of a SNIC for adults, including photograph, name, father’s name, date of birth and address,” he said.
