The minimum amount of Fitrana has been fixed at Rs 100 per head this year, said Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Mufti Muneebur Rehman on Sunday.
He said according to the market price of 2.25 kilogrammes of flour, the amount for Fitrana was calculated as Rs 100, adding that those who wanted to pay Fitrana equal to the price of barley, dates and raisins should pay Rs 200, Rs 1,120 and Rs 2,200 per head, respectively.
He said a Muslim who possessed more food than his needs must pay Sadqa-e-Fitr before the Eid prayers.
The breadwinner had to pay the Sadqa-e-Fitr for his wife, children, servants or dependent relatives, he said.
The mufti advised the people to pay the amount to the poor before Eid-ul-Fitr so that they could also celebrate the festival.
Those most deserving of the Sadqa-e-Fitr were close relatives, followed by neighbours, who were poor.
Islamabad F-11 Markaz Imambargah Khateeb Allama Syed Zafar Abbas said the minimum amount of Fitrana for Fiqa Jafria was Rs 150.
He said the people who consumed wheat would have to pay Rs 150 for each family member or dependent while those who consumed both wheat and rice would have to pay Rs 300 per person.
He urged the people not to forget the needy and deserving during Eid celebrations.
