Disaster brings political foes together

Minister for State Khurram Dastagir said on Monday the federal government would assist the Sindh government for improvement of disaster management services.
He was talking on the occasion of a briefing given by the Sindh Chief
Secretary Muhammad Ajaz Chaudhry.
Earlier, he was briefed about that relief and rescue measures regarding the rain affectees in the city.
Dastagir said that he had come here on the directive of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who urged him to visit the rain affected areas of the metropolis.
He stated that the federal government would assist Sindh for strengthening the disaster management system and to make it more effective.
The minister also asked the provincial chief secretary to submit suggestions and recommendations in this regard.
In his briefing given on the occasion, the Chief Secretary Chaudhry said that the overall situation had been brought under control and relief activities were also picking up pace.
He was of the view that by further improving the local bodies system would improve the overall situation of the city.
Chaudhry said that with infrastructural development and collaborative efforts on the part of the federal and provincial governments, further improvements could be made to the existing system.
Dastagir promised complete assistance in the relief activities being undertaken by the provincial government.
Earlier, the minister also visited the rain affected areas of the metropolis.
