Heavy monsoon rains covered large areas of Pakistan and left behind considerable damage behind. In Sindh province the historical ruins of Moen-jo-Daro were also not spared in the havoc brought about by the showers.
Sindh Department of Archaeology had declared emergency within the department and closed the site of Moen-jo-Daro for public and media representatives.
According to sources, rainwater entered in the DKG area of the site due to negligence of the authorities concerned and two walls of the particular area collapsed. DKG area is situated in the north south of the Moen-jo-Daro.
Water being soaked by the foundations of the Moen-jo-Daro ruins was quite harmful for the site as it was already deteriorating fast.
In this regard, the archaeology department had started working on the site and was using electric pumps to pull out water from the ruins.
Cultural Secretary Saeed Awan said that government had already issued funds for prevention and restoration of the cultural treasure of the country and the provincial government was working on urgent basis to save the ruins of the once blossoming ancient civilisation.
